The recent chatter in The Wire (18th October 2023) and The Hindu (24th October 2023) about the special modules on Chandrayaan-3 from NCERT got us excited! With India making giant strides in space exploration, it's crucial for our teachers and students to stay updated and inspired beyond the regular textbooks.
Our aim is to fill our educational system with pride in India's accomplishments by providing resources that are both informative and engaging. One such monumental achievement is the successful landing of Bharat's Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon on 23rd August 2023.
Engaging 26 Crore Students
NCERT is bringing this fantastic space mission into the classroom. With 26 crore students in our school education system, it's essential to share this incredible story with them. To make this happen, NCERT has developed a set of special modules focusing on various significant themes, including Chandrayaan-3.
The first theme chosen for these special modules is Chandrayaan-3. NCERT has carefully created ten modules that give a comprehensive overview of this mission, covering its scientific, technological, cultural, and social aspects. These modules also capture the emotional journey and teamwork of the scientists involved.
Designed to be interactive and engaging, the modules include graphics, photographs, illustrations, activities, and challenging questions. They are tailored for students from grades 1 to 12, with content relevant to each age group. The modules feature stories, case studies, quiz questions, and activities, promoting self-paced learning and encouraging teachers to guide their students through experiential learning.
NCERT acknowledges the significant role played by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) scientists in these modules. Contributions from renowned scientists like Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Dr. S. Somnath, Dr. K. Sivan, Ms. Nandini Harinath, and many others are highlighted, giving students a glimpse into the minds behind the mission.
It’s also crucial to highlight the commitment of the Hon'ble Prime Minister towards space achievements. Recognizing his support can inspire students to take an interest in science and technology, showing them the power of visionary leadership.
The integration of these achievements and the recognition of collaborative efforts reflect the strength of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). This vision, along with the revised Space policy, is steering the country towards self-reliance in space exploration.
Mythology and philosophy often spark innovation and research. Studies show that integrating culture into education not only enriches our understanding of history but also enhances creativity and problem-solving skills. These modules weave India’s rich cultural association with the sky and space into the learning experience.
These modules are now accessible on the NCERT website, launched by the Hon'ble Education Minister in the presence of the ISRO Chairman.
